what readers are saying
Jane is a gifted teacher and student of the Bible even more than she is a writer and soul inspiring woman of faith.
This book was a joy to read, a welcomed challenge to dig into, and a tear-jerking inspirational story that is woven throughout embracing grief, hope, and white-knuckle faith.
The book is not a memoir - although you will get to know Jane well as she opens up into the most vulnerable parts a woman can go. This book is a story of a woman who trusted God, dug in deep, leaned into Him in every way a woman should (AND shows you how), and came out the other side shouting from the rooftops of all that our God can do.
Whether you are in a dark place in need of hope, or in the harvest, Jane demonstrates and teaches readers how to lean in and trust the Lord through it all. Part study guide, part conversation over coffee, part soul digging inspiration this book is a must-have for any woman seeking a closer relationship with the Lord. Jane’s book will meet you in the gap.
I have bought Jane's other "book" a 9-week Devotional, Treasures of Darkness. This book + that guide have transformed the way I look at the trails in my life and truly the way I prepare myself for the trials to come.
Jane delivers her story in such a raw way, you yourself feel pieces of what she went through. You rejoice with her and mourn with her and find hope with her through this book! And at the end, Jane lays out how she herself prepared her heart and walked through some of the darkest points in her life.
The bible study guides have transformed the way I read and interpret scripture. They have helped me deepen my relationship with God and have helped my love for His word grow!! I encourage all y'all, no matter what season of life you're in, to read this book and begin digging wells for the drought.
This book has been a great resource for me as I learn more on how to study the Bible. I find myself looking through some of the pages to provide me guidance. I also LOVE Jane's faith and the story God wrote for her life. What an awesome God story, I was so blown away by it.
I LOVE THIS BOOK. I originally got it for the subtitle “Discovering Truth to Seasons of Waiting.” Not only does she share her season of waiting and her heart, she TEACHES you how to dig your well deep into scripture and find those truths for yourself. I love that it wasn’t just a book of truths for her story, though I would have loved that too, but that she breaks down HOW to study scripture and find those truths for yourself. I will read this again and again!
I bought this book after finding the abbreviated version on the Bible app. I am so glad I did! Jane Johnson’s story, along with her detailed lessons on studying scripture have reshaped my quiet time. She gives valuable insights and lessons in digging deeply into God’s word. Whether you are in a dry, stormy, or peaceful season of life, this book is a must-read!
This book by Jane Johnson isn’t just life changing, it’s spiritually transforming. She teaches you HOW to study scripture for yourself by digging into cross references as well as the original Hebrew and Greek. Words are my love language (English major 🙋🏼♀️) and I’m convinced we would be more excited about the Bible if we truly understood the deep rich meanings of the actual words that were written.
I’ve started using her in-depth and I mean IN-DEPTH studying techniques and I just can’t get enough of this absolutely beautiful Love Letter from God. (I started digging in during Fletcher’s nap-time and before I knew it almost two hours had passed! And I wanted even more time to discover all the treasures God laid out for me to find!)
If you want a fire set in your soul and your bones to come alive, and a renewed passion for the Bible, I highly HIGHLY recommend reading this book and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform the way you look at Scripture.
Thank you, Ann Voskamp, for having Jane on your blog recently. As i read the post, and then more about this book, I knew it was one I needed. I've been "rationing" myself in reading through the book, as I want to be intentional with every word. Not only is Jane's personal story of waiting on God encouraging for every person who has been waiting for Him to come through, but her clear and specific guidance in teaching others to truly study God's word has been a gift beyond measure.
The most important book in my walk with God and In my journey to studying scripture. Jane digs so deep and really brings out a lot of things that I didn’t expect. She’s thorough and engaging. As a lover of bible studies, this is by far my very favorite I’ve ever done.
I read this book in less than a week, so good! Despite being a college student and not facing some of the same obstacles Jane has, her story has inspired me to be brave in my walk with Christ and to put all my trust in Him.
10/10 recommend this book for you and your girl friends to read together!
Merriest Christmas from our little family to yours. 🎄
To the woman who is holding the weight of the world on her shoulders.
I’m praying for you.
This prayer has been repeated on my lips since I first read the words yesterday morning. They were tucked up in the Passion Translation’s version of Psalm 17:7.

“Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,” David wrote. “Magnify the marvels of Your mercy to all who seek You. Show me Your unfailing love in wonderful ways. Paint grace-graffiti on the fences. Display the wonders of Your faithful love.” (NJKV - TPT - NLT - MSG - CSB)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
God, magnify the marvels of Your mercy to me today.
It’s hard for me to believe that it’s already been ten years since I first wrote 25 Days of Advent.
When I did, Josh and I were living in a 500-square-foot cottage on Maui, nearly ten years into our wait for a family. We had NO idea that, three months later, we would get the surprise of our lives.
So, December 2nd’s essay is extra special for me. Swipe through the slides and you’ll see why.

I’m neck-deep in polishing up the first finished draft of my second manuscript. It’s a commentary through the books of Ezra, Esther, and Nehemiah (slated for an early 2027 release) and, since I’m leaning in to Jesus’ second coming this Advent, this snippet from my commentary on Nehemiah 4 begged to be shared.

(Let alone the fact that the words that I first wrote two years ago are circling back around and preaching right to my own heart this morning.)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also, I juts got edits back from my first manuscript (did I mention I have TWO BOOKS coming out in the next year or so??) so I’m buried in writing and editing for the next few weeks and would love your prayer as I fight for every word!
